From this tumblr one year ago — “LAST NIGHT had a bad cough and then ended up having to give an off-the-cuff presentation, while inexplicably rocking this kind of iranian-american princess/sade look (i.e., black velvet dress embellished with tons of gold thread).  i probably should’ve known about the presentation, but i didn’t, so i think people just thought i was weirdly overdressed for it.  truth be told, it didn’t even occur to me until my professor made a comment and i think i turned really red. i guess the explanation for the dress is that i had come from my parents’ house, where my mom had recently given me a lot of of black ’80s hand-me-downs.  the dress in question she apparently wore to her 20th reunion when she was pregnant with my sister.  so i guess that means i was also wearing a maternity dress…sadly, i don’t find it especially roomy or anything” +++ More garments steeped in weird history here.
